Why Couples Say The Franconia Inn Is the Most Romantic Getaway in the White Mountains

When it comes to romantic getaways in the White Mountains, we believe that love deserves a beautiful setting — and here at The Franconia Inn, that’s exactly what we’ve been offering for more than a century. Our historic country inn sits on 107 acres of peaceful meadowland surrounded by breathtaking mountain views, timeless charm, and a sense of calm that feels like it belongs only to you.

A Place where Romance Comes Naturally

Each morning, the first light over Cannon Mountain paints the landscape outside our windows in soft pink and gold, slowly revealing the ridgelines and open fields that surround the inn. As the day begins, couples often step out onto our front porch, mugs of hot coffee or cocoa in hand, and settle into the rocking chairs to soak in the stillness. From this vantage point, the mountains feel close enough to touch, and it’s an easy place to dream up the perfect day together.

Many guests use this quiet moment to map out their adventures — deciding whether they’ll glide along our groomed cross-country ski trails, saddle up for a horseback ride, or venture into nearby Franconia Notch to chase views, waterfalls, and scenic overlooks. Others simply choose to stroll along our property’s trails, letting the fresh mountain air and expansive views set the tone for an unhurried, romantic day in the White Mountains.

What Makes the Franconia Inn Special

We like to think our inn feels a little like stepping back in time — just with the modern comforts you love. Each guest room is individually decorated with antique touches and beautiful views. Many couples appreciate our "TV-free Tranquility" as most of our guest rooms do not have televisions (we have a few available for those who can't live without it!). This allows for more time to connect with your loved one and enjoy the natural beauty around you.

Our pub and dining room serve home-cooked meals and craft cocktails by the fire for a relaxing evening with a romantic atmosphere.

Couples come here for anniversaries, proposals, honeymoons, and quiet weekends away from the world. The combination of historic character, mountain scenery, and genuine hospitality makes our Inn a top choice for romantic getaways in the White Mountains.

When I am on vacation, my ideal day is to NOT feel like a tourist but rather immerse myself in a new place and put myself in a local’s shoes, imagining how it might feel to actually live somewhere else, even if it’s just for a day.

The winter of 2023/2024 in Franconia was marked by unseasonably warm temperatures, more rain than snow, and it left us wondering: "What is the future for cross-country skiing at the Franconia Inn?" With very little snow to work with, we were only able to be open for a handful of decent ski days which was a major disappointment for our Nordic ski enthusiasts. This season's winter put a lot of that uncertainty in the rearview mirror. With over 5 feet of snow and consistently cold temperatures, the cross-country ski conditions were some of the best we've ever experienced here at the Franconia Inn. Here's a look at how this incredible ski season played out in the North Country.
