May 31, 2024 - At age 40-plus, ‘old men’ gear up for spirited annual rugby festival - Boston Globe

"On the first Saturday of June, clubs from New England and Canada convene with teams of their finest players aged 40 or older. Each side gets two matches on the green fields across from Franconia Inn.

'We’re happy to be part of this continuing tradition', said Franconia Inn’s owner Linda Ricciardelli. 'It’s definitely good for business on a traditionally quieter weekend, when summer vacation plans haven’t kicked into full gear yet.'

Ricciardelli said the Connecticut Grey Rugby Club booked most of the rooms at the Inn this year. The other clubs will head to their accommodations eventually, but first they will socialize under covered tents around elaborate grill set-ups, with the South Shore Anchors bringing a literal ton of propane to cook oysters all evening."

February 4, 2025 - Sixtysomethings get a second chance at romance after a loss - Boston Globe

"Their small ceremony at the Franconia Inn in Franconia, N.H. would be family only — 14 guests, including Brian’s three daughters, Carolyn’s daughter and son, and their families.

The ceremony, which took place in the inn’s dining room, was not religious. However, it included a hand-fasting ritual, a Celtic tradition in which a couple’s hands are wrapped together and freed from a strip of fabric, forming a knot. (Thus the phrase, “Tying the knot.”)

Carolyn carried a bouquet made by Emily Herzig of EH Floral that included lilies of the valley, which symbolize a return to happiness, a journey Brian documented in his vows, down to the hour.

“Three years, 364 days, and 19 hours after we talked that New Year’s Day,” he says, “we married.”

While Cannon Mountain offers trails for all abilities, there are parts of this New Hampshire classic which skew on the steeper, more challenging side—this is, after all, where world-famous skier Bode Miller grew up skiing in the 1990s. The ski area is also totally picturesque and charming, nestled in the vast Franconia Notch State Park. And if you're looking for the best skiing in New Hampshire, the state's longest vertical drop at 2,180 feet, as well as the first aerial tramway in the country. Ski here if you dare.

Where to stay: The Franconia Inn is a historic full service country inn that looks right out of a Christmas movie. It's also across from a glider airport—fun for watching the aircrafts that come and go.
